Golden stadium for the final of the World Cup in Qatar
Architectural studio Foster + Partners has designed a golden stadium for the finals of the Football World Cup, which will take place in Qatar in 2022.
Lusail Stadium will accommodate 80,000 spectators and will be located approximately 15 km north of the center of Doha, the capital of Qatar. There will be both the opening match and the final of the World Cup.
The design of the golden stadium refers to the Arabic architecture, as well as the “intricate bowls” that have been created in the Middle East for centuries.
“The new stadium is a tribute to our past and a symbol of an exciting future,” said Hassan Al Thawadi, secretary general of the Supreme Committee on Supply and Qatari Heritage.
After the tournament ends, most places will be removed and the stadium will be moved to the city center. Under the roof of the stadium, a school, a health clinic, cafes and apartments will be built. There will also be football fields.
Lusail Stadium is one of 10 specifically built for the World Cup in Qatar.
